A view across Lake Bled in autumn, with Bled Island and the Church of the Assumption reflected in its waters, Bled, Upper Carniola, Slovenia.

Lake Bled is of mixed glacial and tectonic origin. The church of the Assumption of Mary (Cerkev Marijinega vnebovzetja) on Bled Island (Blejski otok) was built in its current form near the end of the 17th century. It is decorated with remains of Gothic frescos from around 1470 in the chancel and has a 52-metre tall tower.
