An Ethiopian wolf (Canis simensis) trots across the plain of the Web Valley, Bale Mountains National Park, Oromia, Ethiopia while foraging for its main prey, the giant mole rat (Tachyoryctes macrocephalus)

Over half (around 200 animals) of the population of the endemic and highly endangered Ethiopian wolf is found within Bale Mountains National Park, where ongoing threats include conflict with herders and disease. International conservation efforts include rabies vaccination (indicated by the ear tag on this animal) and persuading local populations that ecotourism revenues justify losses of cattle to predation.
