Portrait image of a shepherd walking ahead of his large flock of sheep above agricultural fields on a valley plain, Umbria, Italy

The limestone basin of the Piano Grande at Castelluccio di Norcia supports a huge array of wildflowers from late spring to early summer each year, the colours changing as different species bloom successively. It is also famous for the small lentils that grow there and sheep’s milk is used to produced local varieties of pecorino cheese.
